The 310 area code was created in Los Angeles County when it was split from the 213 area code on November 2, 1991. The original 213 designation was established in 1947 to cover all of Southern California. The 310 area code became the fifth area code in Southern California after the 213 first split in 1951. In July of 2006, the long planned 424 area code overlay was introduced, creating two area codes for the 310 coverage map. Now, all calls made in the 310/424 area code must be dialed with 10 digits.
Entirely contained within Los Angeles County, the 310 area code only services one of the many area Southern California Counties.
The 310 coverage map includes Barrington,
Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Century City, Culver City, Greenmead, Inglewood,
Lennox, Lynwood, Malibu, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Rancho
Park, Santa Monica, Venice, Village, and Westchester. In addition, parts of
Western Los Angeles and the island of Catalina are also covered by 310.
